SuperFoods: What You're Missing Out On.

Super-Foods: What you're missing out on.

Super Foods contain high amounts of micro nutrients that are beneficial to health and well being. Now that - as we can probably agree - is quite vague. Is adding one or two different ingredients into your diet going to make a massive difference? The short answer - according to american heart association and many other reputable sources -  is a resounding yes.

You will be confronted over the past few years with the super-food shakes and smoothies. But what actually makes them so "super" well today I'm going to talk about two of my personal choices that I have used and felt a real benefit from. With proven science and experience with these products I really do believe in their to the and overall sense of feeling healthy I felt from using these products.

Spirulina:

Spirulina is a blue - green algae, grown in very specific ways all over the world. Most famously in Hawaii. It is one of the most well researched super-foods available on today's market. Spirulina is the subject of 1,200 peer reviewed studies for its health benefits, and is found that - if taken on a daily basis - has a huge number of health benefits.

Ranging from it's ridiculously high vitamin content. (which include vitamins B-1, B-2 , B-3, B-6, B-9, vitamin C, vitamin D, vitamin A and vitamin E. It's a source of potassium, calcium, chromium, copper, iron, magnesium,  manganese, phosphorus,  selenium, sodium and zinc to name a few.) to mention its impressive anti inflammatory ingredients like GLA (gamma linolinec acid) that are rarely found in any other food source. Reducing inflammation in the body has a huge number of benefits. Including a reduced risk of heart disease, cancer, joint issues like arthritis and high blood pressure to name a few.

It also helps to protect cells from excess damage (or radical cell death) through its abundance of antioxidants. This reduces the chance of heart disease, stroke, cancer and a multitude of other diseases. Not to mention the fact that it also has been proven to help speed up fat loss through exercise through oxidizing the blood and reducing muscle and nervous fatigue.

And that truly is the tip of the iceberg when talking about this fantastic ingredient. But I feel my case has been made.

Acai Berry:

Acai berries are something that you will have definitely seen in the average health food store. Now what makes these little berries so "super" is a multitude of things. But primarily it lies in the amount of antioxidants these berries hold. More than  cranberries, grapes and every other fruit. They have the second highest amount of naturally occurring anti-oxidants of any berry. Only slightly less than blueberries. But it's everything else that the acai berry brings with it that makes it a superior ingredient.

The high levels of amino acids in the acai berry make it a great source of broken down proteins for vegans and vegetarians. It is a great source of essential fatty acids. Which help to reduce joint pain and other associated joint issues like rheumatoid arthritis. Acai Berry is also useful to utilise to increase cognitive functionality with improved focus and memory.

The acai berry is also very high in fiber which aids in digestion and the effective breakdown and dispersion of proteins, carbohydrates and fats. And just to top it off this chocolatey berry is also great for its anti ageing benefits. With effects ranging from brain functionality to skin quality.

Conclusion:

There are a huge number of other super foods that are readily available and effective. But these two are the selection I've used on a frequent basis. After using them I can honestly say that I felt more energized with more sustainable levels of endurance in the gym and overall just felt like a healthier person. Even mentally, I felt more aware, focused and driven from just implementing a couple of very simple ingredients into my day to day life.
